2024 PROJECT SEASON IS ALMOST HERE!

Become a Member, Register Early

Did you know our members have the opportunity to register early for projects? Starting on March 18, RFOV members will have TWO weeks before the general public to register for the 2024 projects. Membership donations start at $35. For more information about RFOV membership, please visit our website.

NOTE: Our popular overnight projects this season at Cathedral Lake Trail, Four Pass Loop, and Betty Bear Hut have limited capacity and will fill up quickly. Members get to sign up before anyone else!

Our outdoors depend on RFOV and we depend on you. Help make our shared outdoors into common ground, and become a member!

In Search for Seasonal Housing

Do you have a room for rent? RFOV is hiring 6 seasonal staff positions this year and we're helping them secure housing before the season starts (April- October)

If you're interested or have any questions, please email Sophie at sahava@rfov.org.

Special Volunteer Trainings

RFOV offers more than just projects out on our public lands. Here are other ways to volunteer with RFOV off the trails:

Trainings are April 16 or July 16 from 6-7:30 PM.

Registration will be open by the end of February

Crew Leader Training - Learn technical and leadership skills to help lead other volunteers in trail, restoration, and fire mitigation projects.

Training is all day May 4 - May 5.

Registration will be open by the end of February.

Chainsaw Training - Space for 8 volunteers who are interested in gaining a S-212 Chainsaw certification. THREE spots remain — register ASAP.

To obtain certification, participants must attend Chainsaw Training May 16-19 and two out of three chainsaw projects in the 2024 season.

JANUARY HIGHLIGHTS

RFOV Receives Grant From Aspen Thrift Shop

The Aspen Thrift Shop is one of the valley's largest funders and we are thrilled to announce that they have awarded RFOV $6,000 for the 2024 season. This grant will go to support our Young Stewards Program with the mission of fostering a new generation of environmental stewards. Thank you Aspen Thrift Shop!

Youth In Nature News

In January, Youth In Nature (YIN) students met on Richmond Ridge on Aspen Mountain to learn about snow science and avalanche phenomena with The Buddy Program. Students practiced beacon searches, drank hot chocolate, and dug snow pits to examine snow layers under the surface, all while enjoying a beautiful winter day with impressive views.

If you know a student who would benefit from this program, our application is now open through April 15! Youth In Nature is a cost-free outdoor internship for high school students in the Aspen to Parachute region. YIN provides transportation, outdoor gear, and a $1,500 educational award for each student.
