Fire Adaptation

Physically Strenuous

In 2023, RFOV is launching a brand new volunteer chainsaw sawyer program! We're excited to build capacity to support much-needed fire mitigation projects around our valley and hope you'll join the effort.
This training is currently full, but if you are interested, please join the waitlist in case there are cancellations. In our first year piloting this program, registration is limited to 8 volunteers, but we hope to expand this program next year.

The volunteer chainsaw program will require:

  1. Participating in the 3-day training Friday, May 19 - Sunday, May 21. The location of this training is TBD but will be between Aspen and Glenwood Springs.

  2. Participating in at least two of the three planned chainsaw projects:

    1. Ponderosa Park, Basalt - Sunday, June 11

    2. Hunter Creek, Aspen - Saturday, August 5

    3. Wulfsohn Mountain Park, Glenwood Springs - Sunday, October 15

To ensure that volunteers who participate in the initial training continue to participate in volunteer projects, RFOV requires that volunteers pay a $250 deposit that will be returned upon participating in two of the three planned volunteer chainsaw projects in 2023. If you need to cancel your registration after signing up, we ask that you do so no less than 4 weeks in advance of the May training. Deposits will not be returned if you cancel within 4 weeks of the May training. If providing a $250 deposit presents a serious financial strain, please reach out to us to discuss options.

Volunteers will be required to bring the following personal gear: long pants, long sleeve shirt, 6-inch to 8-inch sturdy and cut-resistant boots with non-slip sole (e.g., leather boots with a Vibram sole), lunch/snacks, water, backpack.

The success of this new program and completion of our commitment to the funders of this program relies on volunteers following through with participating in projects after the training. Please sign up for this program only if you can commit to participation after the training.

Registration: All participants of all ages must be registered individually.

Waiver: All participants must complete a waiver.

Cancellation: It takes a lot of staff and project partner time to plan and organize volunteer events. If you need to cancel, we ask that you let us know by emailing info@rfov.org 4 weeks in advance (April 21st) so we can plan accordingly.
