Volunteers Needed for 2011 Town to Town Ski and Snowshoe Tour

Good news! We have begun planning for the return of our popular Nordic community event and fundraiser, the Town to Town Tour, to be held in early 2011.

The tour took a one-year hiatus in 2010 despite successful events in 2008 and 2009, when more than 360 participants cross-country skied and snowshoed on the Rio Grande Trail from Aspen to Basalt. The downturn in the economy had made it difficult to secure enough financial sponsors to guarantee a quality event for this winter, the RFOV Board of Directors stated last fall. We have revisited what it will take to host another successful event and are recruiting volunteers and sponsors now to lock in enough support for 2011.

"We are optimistic that a 2011 tour can be the best yet, and we are asking sponsors, in-kind donors, and volunteers to get involved as soon as possible. This is a great Nordic event that relies on the support of the community," said RFOV Executive Director David Hamilton.

The organizing committee will begin meeting every six to eight weeks and then monthly about four months out from a mid- to late January event.

Additionally, we will organize sub-groups of volunteers who are in charge of special task areas for the event. Sub-group leaders and additional volunteers are needed in several areas, including:
  • Course Signage and Stations
  • Goody Bags
  • Food
  • Fund-Raising
  • Permits
  • Publicity and Marketing
  • Raffle Prizes
  • Volunteer Coordination
The goal of the tour is to raise awareness of and funds for RFOV to continue promoting stewardship of public lands by creating volunteer opportunities for trail work and conservation projects.
