 Objectives of Crew Leader Training 

To complete our program each crew leader trainee should be able to demonstrate:

Leadership

  • State in your own words the mission of RFOV
  • Lead a crew and demonstrate good team building skills
  • Create a positive experience for the volunteer
  • Organize a group of volunteers to accomplish a section of the project
  • Use a group approach to solve problems

Safety

  • Start of day orientation including a list of the project's safety concerns
  • Proper use, transport and storage of tools
  • Identify the safety response net in case of injury or evacuation

Technical Skills

  • Use of construction notes to understand the whys of our construction techniques and accomplish the project tasks
  • Basic trail concepts, terms and construction
  • Recognize the critical features of trail drainage, the construction and workings of drainage structures including dips and waterbars
